Tales of the Rays might not be the greatest tales game some of us were hoping for, but there is still a lot going on here to enjoy. And also a lot of ideas to get your head round if you want to make sure you are showing those bad guys what for.

That is why we have gone and written this guide. It is going to walk you through the basics of the game, as well as throwing you some more advanced tips and strategies so that you really get into the meat of the game.

We also  give up a few sneaky tricks that should ensure you are always coming out on top in the battles that the game throws at you. Let us get on with it.

Basics tips

• Know where your are going to move – It is important to remember where your moves are, and what direction you need to swipe to pull them off. You can check in your character screen, or when you are fighting the UI will show which moves you can use.
• Flick it up, flick it up – Don’t forget to use your super moves. You access these by flicking up on your character’s portraits at the bottom of the fight screen. A red arrow will show you when you can use them. The more often you use them, the more powerful they’re going to be.
• Move and stand still – Moving and standing still are your defensive tactics in the game. Stand still and you’ll take damage, but it’ll be reduced thanks to the guard mechanic. Move around and you’re less likely to get hit, but your CC won’t regenerate as quickly. 

Advanced guide

• Always have a look around – While the game always tells you which way to go when you are in dungeons, that does not mean there is nothing else to see. Make sure you explore, because you are sure to find chests and enemies that you had have missed if you stayed on the game's track.
• Check out the quests – As well as finishing the levels, there are separate challenges to complete as well. Check these out when you are on a mission, because they’re a great source of currency that’s otherwise difficult to get hold of.
• Let the game choose – You are able to equip your team with the best gear with the click of a single button. Make sure you press this at the start of every mission. Sometimes you will not notice when you have received something new. It is a good way to make sure you are as tough as you can be. 

 Hints and Tips

• Check the help that is offered – You can take one extra character with you into battle, and use their special move. Scroll through the list of help on offer, and make sure you are choosing the strongest character. This does not always mean the one with the highest level, though. Check the borders around the characters – if they’re glowing green they will get a boost in this particular level.
• Always play as often as you can – Like most free to play games, there are rewards here for playing on a daily basis. So even if you are just popping in for a look, it is worth loading the game up so you can keep your reward streak going.
• Remember to check your missions – These are on the left of the screen when you’re on the bridge. You will complete them just by playing the game, and they will give you some pretty impressive rewards too.

Here are some other tips you can do in order to play more fun. If you enable auto-play during a dungeon, it will cause your character to immediately take the shortest path to the dungeon boss. While this is good if you are trying to save some time, you will miss out on the treasure chests and extra monsters that are off the beaten path.

Auto-Play is good if you want to rush through the dungeons but it will not give you the best experience. The best experience comes when you explore the whole world thoroughly and find all the different secrets and items hidden around the world. We will recommend that you use auto-play as less as possible to enhance your gameplay. It also will make you better at your game and will increase your character’s level much faster.

You have to consider that a lot of dungeon missions require you to find all the chests and take out all monsters, you will be missing out on precious mirrogems, the premium currency of the game. We recommend manually playing through the dungeons if you have not already completed all the missions.

When you use the same arte in a row will cause it to get “stale”. When this happens, the arte will do less damage and enemies will be able to block it easily. Your basic attack combo should be three regular attacks, followed by an arte.

Alternate between your artes to avoid this problem, and always try to time it smoothly. Timing your artes right after your auto attacks will net you the Just bonus, which gives bonus MG. This lets you use your Mirrage Arte sooner.

Enemies will guard against your attacks to dramatically reduce the damage they take. To Guard Break, back off the enemy and wait for your CC to refill. Unleashing any arte at full CC will give it guard breaking properties, so this is usually the best way to deal with guarding enemies.
